Established by Jane Odey, VictualMart differentiates itself through an “offline-first” technological approach. Acknowledging that a considerable part of the underserved population does not have consistent internet access or smart devices, the platform makes use of USSD codes and Near Field Communication (NFC)-powered prepaid cards.

This hybrid design enables users to prepay for meals, track their costs, and gain access to reliable nutrition regardless of their socio-economic status or digital literacy levels. The core technological pillars of the model consist of:

  • NFC & USSD Integration: Making it possible for meal payments and tracking without a smart device or internet connection.
  • AI-Powered Demand Forecasting: Assisting local vendors reduce food waste and optimise inventory.
  • Community Agent Networks: Utilising local agents to bridge the gap in between technology and the end-user.
  • Smart Meal Personalisation: Utilizing AI to ensure meals are both healthy and culturally appropriate.

Beyond consumer access, the Youth4Climate funding is earmarked to empower the supply side of the food chain. VictualMart supplies local food suppliers and farmers with digital tools to cut waste and increase their constant income.
