
How can you cultivate a favorable working atmosphere at your chair? What matters when it pertains to leading research groups effectively? How can conflicts within a team be fixed? What constitutes great interaction? What expectations come with a professorship? And what jobs and duties do you actually handle as a leader in academic community? These are just a few of the topics resolved in the management program for TU teachers.
For all freshly designated professors, the initial seminar and Fundamental Module I, “Leading with Legal Certainty at TU Dortmund University,” are compulsory (a total of 12 mentor hours); for those designated to their first professorship, Standard Module II, “Interaction as a Leadership Tool,” and the concluding workshop are needed in addition (an overall of 24 teaching hours). On top of this, there are 8 optional modules– from recruiting, doctoral supervision, and the acquisition of third-party funding to inclusive leadership– which can be taken according to private interests.

A shared, values-based leadership culture is also an objective of the Ruhr Innovation Lab, the title of the joint application of TU Dortmund University and Ruhr University Bochum as a “University Consortium of Excellence” in the second funding line of the Excellence Method. The new TU Academic Leadership Program adds to this objective.
