LAGOS, NIGERIA – The Society for Corporate Governance Nigeria (SCGN) has taken a significant step toward sanitizing Nigeria’s future corporate landscape by inaugurating its first-ever student chapter at the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

The “SCGN Corporate Governance Club” was launched on Friday, March 6, 2026, marking a new era of ethical leadership training for the next generation of Nigerian professionals.

The initiative is the pilot phase of a broader national program designed to embed principles of integrity, accountability, and transparency into the academic and professional development of university students.

Delivering the keynote address, the Managing Director of SCGN, Chioma Mordi, challenged the 80 pioneer members to view leadership as a responsibility to society rather than a personal privilege.

She emphasized that the corporate world of the future will prioritize leaders who balance technical expertise with sound ethical judgment.

The ceremony included the official swearing-in of the club’s pioneer executive committee, conducted by the Chief Operating Officer of SCGN, Dr. Tola Bamigbaiye-Elatuyi.

The event was attended by top academic figures, including the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Abiola Sanni, and former Dean, Prof. Ige Bolodeoku.

The club, though student-led, will receive direct mentorship and resources from SCGN. Its membership spans eight departments, reflecting the organization’s belief that governance is an interdisciplinary necessity.

SCGN revealed that UNILAG serves as the launchpad for a nationwide and continental rollout. Plans are already underway to establish similar chapters at Lagos State University (LASU) and Pan-Atlantic University (PAU) before expanding across Africa.
