
KATSINA, KATSINA STATE– In a tactical relocate to promote intellectual growth and bridge the gap between the militaries and the civilian population, the 17 Brigade of the Nigerian Army has successfully conducted its first inter-school academic quiz competitors.
The event, held on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at the Officers’ Mess in Katsina, united 10 secondary schools to complete in a strenuous test of scholastic efficiency.
The effort belongs to the armed force’s non-kinetic approach to security, concentrating on education as a tool for youth advancement and neighborhood engagement in the Northwest region.
A Fight of Wits and Knowledge
The competitors challenged the taking part students across three core thematic locations: Mathematics, English Language, and General Understanding.
According to the organisers, the curriculum-based concerns were created to promote important thinking and motivate students to see academic excellence as a foundational value.
Brig.-Gen. Ishaya Ibrahim, the Brigade Commander, represented by the Brigade’s Chief of Personnel, Col. Neriah Yakubu, stressed that the Nigerian Army’s commitment to national stability extends beyond tactical operations to the intellectual empowerment of the younger generation.

“This initiative is targeted at motivating scholastic excellence. We stay committed to supporting programmes that promote education and influence students to strive for the greatest standards of intellectual growth.”
At the conclusion of the high-stakes contest, NAOWA Secondary School, Natsinta Cantonment, became the general winner, showcasing exceptional proficiency of the subject matter. Gobarau College and Little Angels protected the second and 3rd positions, respectively, following a closely contested last round.
