One of the very first jobs of the freshly developed ECR Board was to examine propositions for a new joint funding step, the Movement Grants for Postdocs. The Research Academy of the UA Ruhr had actually introduced this pilot task at the beginning of the year. Postdocs from the three universities can apply for funding for stays abroad in order to gain global experience, establish research study networks around the world or establish independent jobs with global partners. “The Mobility Grants are an essential action towards opening worldwide opportunities for our postdocs and strengthening their scholastic self-reliance,” says Prof. Wilhelm Löwenstein, representative for the Research study Academy.
Concepts of excellent doctoral supervision
The UA Ruhr is continually developing its joint structures and concepts to promote professions in science. Only just recently, cross-university concepts for great doctoral supervision were adopted (released in German only). Among other things, the 3 universities are dedicated to promoting the academic self-reliance of doctoral trainees and supporting them in their profession advancement. The paper also preserves steps against abuse of power. The principles checked in April supplement the existing guidelines for securing great clinical practice of the German Research Study Structure.
The UA Ruhr is also preparing a study of all academic staff and doctoral students on career courses in academic community in the future. Based upon this, even more appropriate support procedures are to be derived. The job is moneyed by MERCUR and carried out by the Center for University Quality Advancement at the University of Duisburg-Essen.
