Explain the EAIE in 3 words or expressions.

To me, the EAIE supplies its members and the larger international education community with a one-stop store to:

  1. Connect a worldwide network and establish partnership.
  2. Find out by collecting understanding on the latest chances and new insights from research.
  3. Grow as an expert and remain motivated.

What inspired you to join the association? Was there a specific moment that sparked the idea?

I’ve always felt a strong connection to the EAIE neighborhood, specifically through participating in events as an individual and volunteering for the marketing and recruitment section. Through these interactions, I had constantly found it to be a really inspiring space with an excellent network of professionals. That enduring impression stayed with me.

So when my predecessor Leonard Engel moved into retirement after 14 years of service, and thinking about my experience dealing with two universities and Dutch national companies on 3 different continents, it seemed like the right time in my profession and an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity at the exact same time.

How would you describe the EAIE’s objective in one sentence?

We serve the requirements of experts by connecting and enhancing the sector through year-round chances, highlighting the effect of internationalisation in an evidence-based method, and engaging with policy-makers and decision-makers to improve policies and programs.

How would your team at the EAIE describe your leadership style?

It’s actually a pleasure to lead this excellent global team of really gifted coworkers! When it pertains to my management design, I hope they ‘d say I empower them to help the EAIE accomplish its objectives, overcome challenges and end up being the best specialists they can be.

What’s one misunderstanding about international education you ‘d love to correct?

The concept that worldwide education is just a ‘great to have’. I think for private trainees and personnel, college organizations and societies at large, the circulation of understanding and people throughout borders is an outright need, in whichever shape or form it takes. Not just does this advance knowledge and support personal development, but it also helps develop a much better understanding between individuals from all over the world.

What keeps you energised outside of work?

When I’m not working, things are usually a mix of running, tennis, cooking, and the vibrant discussions we have at home at the table with three teenage kids.

What suggestions would you provide a young professional entering the international education area?

If I needed to choose one piece of suggestions to show them it would be to establish yourself more broadly by attempting your hand at various functions and/or organisations at the start of your profession. At the exact same time, make a conscious effort to develop a network both within and outside your organization. At the EAIE, our neighborhood platform is developed with exactly this intention in mind.

Lastly, I would say: convince your employer to send you to a conference like the EAIE, APAIE or NAFSA early on, so that you can get a taste of what the sector has to offer. Expose yourself to the broad selection of content, brand-new developments and the terrific people who make up our neighborhood.

What efforts are you rolling out in the future?

There is always something amazing in the works at the EAIE! Presently, we are developing our new method for 2032, which must be settled in 2026. It is an extremely energising process that we are undertaking with all our volunteers, office colleagues, and external stakeholders. I can’t wait to lead its implementation.

On a smaller sized scale, we have actually just released our EAIE task board and brand-new efforts for engagement. Lastly, the brand-new edition of the Barometer report will be released in 2027. Watch out for our study, launching this September!

If you could accomplish one big thing in the next year, what would it be?

Apart from world peace, I hope we will prosper in staying an open platform and safe space for global education professionals from all over the world. A place they can count on to accomplish their institutional and professional goals through our products and services.
