OKITIPUPA, ONDO STATE— The Joint Action Congress (JAC) of the Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Innovation (OAUSTECH) has launched a seven-day tranquil demonstration and a total withdrawal of services.

The commercial action, which started at the institution’s main gate on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, centres on allegations of high-handedness, prohibited period extension, and the rejection of personnel promos by the University Governing Council.

The JAC is a powerful union consisting of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT).

The main target of the protest is the Chairman of the Governing Council, Prof. Akinbo Adesomoju. Protesters, wielding placards with engravings such as “Council Chairman must Go” and “Don’t Deny Our Members of their Promotions,” argued that Adesomoju’s continued remain in office breaches the university’s establishing gazette.

In a telephone interview with reporter, Prof. Akinbo Adesomoju defended the actions of the Council, mentioning that he does not act in isolation.

He highlighted that all choices, consisting of those regarding promos, are collective resolutions of the Governing Council based on established institutional guidelines.

“I am not the council, I am just the chairman,” Adesomoju mentioned. He preserved that while unions deserve to demonstration, promotions are just approved when laid-down requirements are completely satisfied, adding that the council will not jeopardize on these standards.
