ILESA, OSUN STATE– The Federal Government has formally turned over 24 finished real estate systems to the University of Ilesa (UNILESA), marking a substantial turning point in the organization’s rapid transition from a college of education to a full-fledged traditional university.

The handover, part of the National Real Estate Programme (NHP), will help deal with the intense lodging deficit that has actually formerly required the university to repurpose scholastic spaces for domestic use.

Speaking at the event on the university campus, the Minister of Real Estate and Urban Advancement, Ahmed Dangiwa, represented by the Director of Public Structures, Pemi Temitope, emphasised that offering budget-friendly real estate for the university workforce is a “strategic intervention” for nationwide efficiency.

Speeding Up Faculty Expansion and Accreditation

For the University of Ilesa, obtaining these 24 units is more than a social well-being job; it’s important for academic growth.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Taiwo Asaolu, revealed that the absence of basic on-campus real estate had ended up being a traffic jam for securing accreditation for high-stakes programs.

Crucial Impacts on Academic Development:

  • Medical Sciences Accreditation: Satisfying the rigid housing requirements for Law, Medicine, Nursing, and Medical Laboratory Science programs.

  • Reclaiming Class: Ending the historical practice where the university was compelled to transform class into short-term hostel facilities despite having the NHP structures physically present on campus.

  • TETFund Shortlisting: The handover matches the university’s recent shortlisting for TETFund’s High Impact Intervention Jobs.

From College to University: A 47-Year Development

Prof. Asaolu kept in mind the historic nature of the day, reflecting on the organization’s 47-year legacy as a College of Education before its recent elevation.

The transition to a conventional university needs an enormous scale-up in physical possessions, a gap the Federal Ministry of Real estate is now assisting to fill through the NHP.

The Minister advised the university management to prioritise the upkeep of these units, stressing that the longevity of such public buildings is important for the long-term sustainability of Nigeria’s instructional facilities.

The Federal Government reiterated that universities, as centres of development and human capital development, can not operate efficiently if their personnel are burdened by housing insecurity.

The NHP units are developed to offer a “conducive living environment” that directly correlates with higher research output and administrative effectiveness.

A Design for Government Synergy

Minister Dangiwa commended the “efficient synergy” between the university management and the Ministry, describing the successful task execution as a blueprint for how public organizations can team up to resolve nationwide challenges.

As UNILESA continues its expansion into specialised fields like Engineering and Medicine, the university administration expects this real estate boost to draw in top-tier scholastic skill who would otherwise be prevented by the off-campus rental market in the Ilesa axis.
