Ellucian Formally Obtains Anthology’s SIS and ERP Service
The strategic restructuring revealed by Anthology in October is playing out as prepared, with Ellucian finishing its acquisition of Anthology’s Student Info Systems and Enterprise Resource Planning organization on Dec. 31.
Background In the October restructuring, Anthology announced it would divest its Business Operations, Lifecycle Engagement, and Trainee Success services and declare Chapter 11 bankruptcy in an effort to right-size its financial resources and focus on its core teaching and learning products. Ellucian stepped up as the “stalking horse” bidder for the business’s Business Operations items, while Encoura agreed to function as the stalking horse bidder for the Lifecycle Engagement service, consisting of Anthology Encompass, Reach, Advance, along with the Trainee Success business.
Consumer Implications
With the Ellucian acquisition complete, more than 260 Anthology SIS and ERP customers will now sign up with Ellucian’s worldwide community. Ellucian stated it will “continue to provide and keep Anthology’s existing SIS and ERP systems, offering stability for customers while broadening access to Ellucian’s broader technology and services environment and deep higher education know-how.”
Executive View
“This acquisition marks an important minute for Ellucian as we extend our vision– to open learning for all– to an even broader community of institutions and students,” commented Laura Ipsen, president and CEO of Ellucian, in a declaration. “As we invite Anthology’s SIS and ERP consumers and the teams who serve them to Ellucian, we stay focused on connection, a smooth transition, and empowering students for a lifetime of education.”
Looking Ahead
Encoura’s acquisition of Anthology’s Lifecycle Engagement and Student Success company is expected to close in early 2026.
