
The Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University of Education, Professor Bidemi Bilkis Lafiaji-Okuneye, has urged final-year students of the institution to be worthwhile ambassadors of the university and promote worths that will boost its track record after graduation.
She gave the charge during an interactive session with 400-level students hung on June 10, 2026, at the Multimedia Complex of the Vice-Chancellor’s Office as part of activities marking the trainees’ Final Year Brethren (FYB) ceremony.
The trainees, led by the Performing Dean of the Student Affairs Office, Dr. Dawodu Rasheed Adegbenro, went to the university management to bid farewell as they prepare to finish their academic programmes.
Resolving the students, Prof. Lafiaji-Okuneye commended them for their strength, devotion, and dedication throughout their academic journey. She motivated them to preserve good conduct, prevent social vices, and apply the knowledge obtained at the university to make meaningful contributions to society.
She also stressed the importance of security awareness, prompting the trainees to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities.
“Be concentrated on your research studies in the remaining days as LASUED students. Do not relent in your efforts to reach higher heights beyond your degrees, and stay vigilant about your environment due to the security challenges affecting the nation. If you see something, say something,” she stated.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed complete satisfaction with the organized conduct of the trainees throughout the FYB events, associating the success of the event to the efforts of the university’s Security Unit and Trainee Affairs Office.
In a significant announcement, Prof. Lafiaji-Okuneye revealed that LASUED would hold its maiden convocation ceremony this year since obtaining university status. She added that graduating trainees would receive their certificates on the exact same day as the convocation.
She further praised the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for efforts targeted at enhancing access to college, especially through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund scheme.
Previously, the Performing Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Dawodu Rasheed Adegbenro, lauded the Vice-Chancellor for her leadership and commitment to student well-being. He also encouraged trainees to verify info relating to the university before sharing it, alerting versus the spread of false information.
Speaking on behalf of the graduating trainees, Taiwo Samuel Abidemi of the College of Liberal Arts Education (COHED) revealed thankfulness to the university management for offering a conducive knowing environment and approving approval for the FYB event.
He guaranteed the management that the finishing class would remain responsible, disciplined, and law-abiding till the conclusion of their studies and beyond.
