
MAKURDI, BENUE STATE— The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Dad Adasu University, Makurdi (FAUM) branch, has actually issued an official warning of a possible industrial action following unsettled welfare disagreements with the institution’s management. The branch secretary, Daniel Chile, noted that while the union has attempted to engage the university administration diplomatically, the absence of concrete dedications has pressed the scholastic personnel to a snapping point.
The union’s needs centre on considerable financial backlogs and the management of staff advantages. A significant point of contention is the 22-month financial obligations connected to the national base pay and the 25/35% wage award.
According to the communique, the ASUU congress initially met on January 20, 2026, to mandate the executive committee to engage the management. Nevertheless, subsequent meetings with the Vice-Chancellor’s administration failed to produce a clear timeline for resolution.

The union divulged that it has resubmitted the 2025 ASUU– Federal Government arrangement to the university management, firmly insisting that the local administration must align with the national standards of staff well-being.
The branch cautioned that it is currently consulting with its zonal management. If the “significant development” stays elusive, the matter will be intensified to the next meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC), which has the authority to declare a full-blown strike action.
The union stressed that while it prefers discussion, it is prepared to activate all “mechanisms available under the union’s customs” to safeguard the interests of its members.
