
The Federal government has revealed plans to extend trusted digital identity protection to nearly 80 million learners across Nigeria as part of efforts to strengthen governance, enhance education planning and boost public service shipment.
The effort was revealed following a conference in between the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, and the Director-General of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Engr. Bisoye Coker-Odusote, where both parties declared their commitment to deepening cooperation on digital identity in the education sector.
Speaking at the meeting, Dr. Alausa described the NIMC Act, 2026, as a landmark reform that would strengthen governance, enhance public service shipment and construct higher trust in Nigeria’s digital identity ecosystem.
The minister exposed that the Federal Ministry of Education has incorporated the National Learners’ Recognition Number (LIN) with the National Recognition Number (NIN) through the Nigeria Education Management Info System (NEMIS). According to him, the combination will supply confirmed education data to support evidence-based planning, equitable allocation of resources and enhanced finding out outcomes throughout the country.
