The effective rescue of the 44 students and instructors abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State has actually been described by the Nigerian Army as the result of weeks of painstaking intelligence event, strategic preparation and seamless collaboration amongst security firms.
In a declaration released on Friday by the Acting Deputy Director, 2 Department Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, the Army said the victims were saved on July 10 during “intelligence-led, carefully planned and performed operations” led by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division, Major General CR Nnebeife.
According to the Army, the operation involved personnel from the Workplace of the National Security Advisor, the National Counter Terrorism Centre, Defence Head Office, the Nigerian Army, Navy and Flying Force, the Nigeria Police, the Department of State Services, the National Intelligence Agency, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, as well as Amotekun operatives, regional vigilantes and hunters.
The Army explained that the operation, which lasted for more than a month, focused not just on finding the abducted pupils and instructors but likewise on taking apart the criminal network behind the kidnapping.
It mentioned that security forces targeted the terrorists’ kingpins, logistics networks, informants and hideouts within the Old Oyo National Forest and other locations.
“As part of the operations, multiple arrests were made within Oyo State and in other places throughout some states in the nation. These arrests entirely disorganized the group, applied overwhelming pressure on them and eventually led the terrorist group to unconditionally release the students and instructors,” the statement checked out.
The Army included that the objective was deliberately carried out with care to avoid civilian casualties and make sure the safe rescue of the children and their teachers.
“It is sufficient to keep in mind that the operations were carefully prepared and performed to avoid collateral damages and to equally make sure that the innocent children and instructors were safely rescued. However, there were some casualties on the part of the security forces,” it stated.
The rescued victims are currently receiving medical attention at an undisclosed healthcare facility before being turned over to the Oyo State Government for reunification with their families.
The operation stands apart as an example of how patience, intelligence and collaborated action can provide results in complex hostage circumstances. Rather than introducing a rash assault that might have endangered the lives of the hostages, the security companies sustained pressure on the kidnappers by dismantling their assistance network till they were entrusted to little choice but to launch the victims.
The Army also expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for supplying the strategic guidance and resources that supported the operation, while thanking Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, the National Security Adviser, service chiefs, heads of security agencies, the media and members of the general public for their assistance throughout the rescue objective.
The Oyo operation demonstrates that effective intelligence event, inter-agency cooperation and disciplined execution remain vital tools in the battle versus kidnapping and terrorism, offering a plan for future security operations throughout the country.
