The kidnapping was validated by the organization’s Students’ Union Federal Government (SUG), which divulged that the student was among eight individuals who went missing out on after attending the Bible Union National Conference held at the Camp of Faith in Okigwe, Imo State.
In a statement provided on Friday, SUG President, Temidayo Adeboye, said Tomisin, who works as the National Secretary of the Scripture Union Trainee Fellowship and Vice-President of the fellowship’s UI chapter, was travelling with the National General Director of the Scripture Union Trainee Fellowship, Uwem Universe, and other conference participants when the incident took place.
Adeboye clarified that contrary to reports circulating on social networks, just one trainee of the University of Ibadan is associated with the incident.
“The union has actually started the necessary engagements to ascertain the realities surrounding the situation and has communicated with relevant religious organisations and security firms to facilitate suitable intervention,” he said.
“We wish to clarify that reports declaring that eight UI trainees are missing out on are incorrect. Tomisin is the only University of Ibadan student presently unaccounted for in the occurrence.”
According to him, issues over the student’s whereabouts magnified after she stopped working to sit for her professors examinations set up for Monday and Tuesday. He added that another trainee from the university’s Department of Music who participated in the conference had actually securely returned.
Likewise speaking on the matter, the university’s Director of Public Relations, Joke Akinpelu, validated that the organization was aware of the event, although it was not officially informed about the journey before the trainee travelled.
Akinpelu said the abduction took place on Saturday and restated that Tomisin was the only University of Ibadan student affected.
“The trainee left the university without formally alerting the institution of her location,” she stated.
Since the time of filing this report, the Imo State Cops Command had yet to issue an official declaration regarding the incident.
