The Federal Capital Area(FCT)Police Command has actually dismissed reports of an alleged kidnapping of students at Phase 1 Primary School, Gbagalape, Abuja, describing the event as a false alarm.

The Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed that officers attached to the Nyanya Division got a distress call at about 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 4, alleging that a kidnapping was in progress at the school.

According to her, the Divisional Law Enforcement Officer (DPO) of Nyanya Department right away mobilised officers and surveillance groups to the scene to verify the report and protect the area.

Preliminary investigations, however, revealed that students had suddenly started shouting “kidnappers” and running out of the school premises, causing panic among teachers and members of the surrounding neighborhood.

Adeh said cops operatives swiftly cordoned off the school and conducted an extensive search of the facilities.

She described that comprehensive searches and questioning of individuals within and around the school showed that no kidnapping had occurred, no suspect was spotted and no victim was identified.

The representative added that officers also searched surrounding hills, borders and adjacent locations, while close-by schools were checked out as part of precautionary security procedures aimed at ensuring public safety.

Adeh advised members of the public to remain calm and prevent spreading out unverified info capable of creating unneeded panic and stress in communities.
