Federal Government Comprehensive Secondary School, Borikiri, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has become the overall winner of the 2026 Nigeria LNG Science Competitors, exceeding six other schools in the acutely contested occasion.
This was revealed in Port Harcourt at the end of the contest’s grand finale, sponsored by Nigeria LNG in partnership with the Rivers State Ministry of Education and the Science Educators Association of Nigeria.
Seven schools took part in the strenuous contest, which included concerns in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science and wildcard classifications.
GCSS Borikiri emerged total winner with 57,189 points, ahead of Niger Delta Science School, which put second with 49,135 points.
Enitonia High School, Port Harcourt, finished third with an overall of 47,686 points.
Other taking part schools were Government Secondary School, Eneka, which completed fourth; Community Secondary School, Rumuomasi, 5th; Nigerian Navy Secondary School, Borokiri, sixth; and Comprehensive High School, Alesa, Eleme, seventh.
The very first-, second-, and third-place winning schools were talented science lab devices, science textbooks, and other undisclosed advantages, along with individual laptops, science books, and other products.
Likewise, three schools at the competition became winners in the science job exhibit.
While Government Girls Secondary School, Oromenike, took very first position in the classification with 83.3 average score, Comprehensive Secondary School, Ogidigba, came 2nd, and Federal government Girls Secondary School, Finimah, took 3rd position.
In her welcome address, NLNG’s General Supervisor, External Relations and Sustainable Advancement, Sophia Horsfall, stated the program acted as an authentic catalyst for quality.
Horsfall even more stated the firm redesigned the competitors to strengthen fundamental understanding in Mathematics, Details and Interaction Innovation, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology across a broader scope.
She said that as the world keeps progressing, so has the vision for the competition.
“We have actually transitioned from a science quiz to a science contest. We want trainees to be able to apply their clinical knowledge to solving real-world problems.
“The world has enough quick talkers; it is now time to empower the problem-solvers who will drive our technological future.
“Our goal is to surpass textbooks, sparking the crucial thinking and development that our world so desperately needs. The journey to this grand ending has been a strenuous test of ability and strength.
“Over the previous few weeks, senior secondary school students from throughout the state have actually browsed the difficult Olympiad and champion stages.”
She continued: “With strong competition and remarkably high standards, the 2026 edition brings a renewed objective– powering tomorrow through science and innovative solutions.
“When I take a look at the young girls here today representing their schools along with the young boys, it offers me a specific sense of pride.”
Horsfall kept in mind that a couple of years ago, an all-girls group won the competitors, but stressed that innovation understands no gender and skill has no limits.

“For our world to discover the services it requires, the radiance of students all over in this room is required.

Rivers State Commissioner for Education, Dr Peters Nwagor, commended the management of the Nigeria LNG for its steadfast commitment to the development of education and clinical advancement in Nigeria.
Dr Nwagor stated through efforts such as the science contest, NLNG continues to purchase the future of young people and the sustainable development of the nation.
While explaining the theme of this year’s competitors, “Powering Tomorrow: Science and Innovation Option”, Nwagor said it’s both timely and inspiring.
He mentioned, “It reminds us that the future we desire can only be accomplished through deliberate financial investments in knowledge, research, innovation, and technological advancement.”
Nwagor even more said education stays the structure upon which scientific development thrives, describing that it equips young minds with crucial thinking abilities, imagination, problem-solving capabilities, and the confidence to change ideas into practical options.
The commissioner stated the administration of Guv Siminalayi Fubara stayed devoted to reinforcing the education sector through improved infrastructure, instructor capacity building, curriculum enhancement, and the promotion of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics education.
