
The Trainees’ Union Federal Government of the University of Uyo has announced the suspension of all sports activities throughout its three schools for a duration of three weeks.
The regulation, released by the Director of Sports, Pal Abasifreke Task, takes effect from Might 2 to Might 23, 2026, and applies to all trainees, athletes, faculty sports planners, and other stakeholders involved in sporting activities.
According to the statement, the decision was taken in honour of departed professional athletes from a sibling organization, whose death has affected the wider sports neighborhood.
“This decision has actually been taken in solemn regard and mourning of our fallen sportspersons from a sibling organization whose loss has deeply affected the entire sports neighborhood,” the statement read.
The union included that the duration would be utilized for reflection and to honour the contributions of the late professional athletes to sports and their organization.
“All training sessions, competitions, and associated sporting engagements are to be put on hold within this period,” the statement included.
The Students’ Union further urged members of the university community to observe the grieving duration with regard and solidarity, keeping in mind that information on the resumption of activities would be interacted in due course.
