Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, has become one of the winners and recipients of the 2025 EU Grant under ERASMUS for the establishment of a Master of Science degree program in Smart Farming and
IoT in Agriculture, called MESITA. OAU is part of a consortium comprised of four Nigerian universities, 3 European universities, and a cloud funding digital environment organisation. The job brings the code MESITA: ERASMUS-EDU-2025-CBHE-STRAND-2.

in Nigeria. It began in Abuja in November 2025. The program is created to gear up graduates with clever farming abilities; it also promotes sustainable and climate-friendly farming practices. The project also encourages university-industry cooperation and supports entrepreneurship and employability in the smart agriculture sector.

The curriculum consists of:

The program is indicated to support knowledge and technology transfer from the EU to Nigeria. That transfer is anticipated to drive digital development and sustainable growth in farming.
Anticipated effect of the programme
MESITA is set to attend to the instructional space in precision farming.
The task also aims to enhance agricultural efficiency and effectiveness. Its broader goals consist of assistance for food security, job production, environmental sustainability, gender equality in agribusiness, and climate change efforts.
