The Lagos State Education District I has successfully staged its 2026 Annual Sports Festival in a colourful and energetic screen of unity, discipline, and vibrant excellence at the Dairy Farm School Complex.

The occasion brought together trainees, educators, and dignitaries from throughout the district in a lively atmosphere that highlighted the significance of sports in holistic education and neighborhood building.

At the centre of the celebration was the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary, Education District I, Dr. Idowu Olufunke Oyetola, whose existence and active involvement set the tone for the unforgettable festival. Providing her welcome address, she warmly received guests and acknowledged notable characters, including previous Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Modupe David, Chairman of Ojokoro LCDA, Mrs. Busari, in addition to Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, his deputy, Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, and the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun.

Speaking on the significance of the festival, Dr. Oyetola emphasised the role of sports in shaping well-rounded individuals.

“Sports stay an effective tool for youth empowerment, discipline, and unity. I encourage all individuals to compete with stability, fairness, and a spirit of togetherness,” she said.

One of the standout minutes of the festival was the grand parade, where trainees from Agege, Ifako-Ijaiye, and Alimosho showed exceptional coordination, discipline, and cultural pride. In a symbolic program of leadership, Dr. Oyetola signed up with the trainees on the parade ground, marching alongside them in a gesture that drew widespread admiration and excitement.

The competitions begun with high energy, featuring thrilling events such as the 100-meter junior race, 800-meter race, and a fascinating football match that showcased team effort and tactical brilliance. A significant highlight was the high table relay race, where Dr. Oyetola demonstrated exceptional dexterity and emerged in very first position, making loud applause from spectators.

At the end of the contests, Agege clinched the total first position with an outstanding efficiency. Ifako-Ijaiye finished as first runner-up, while Alimosho secured 2nd runner-up, with all teams applauded for their sportsmanship and resilience.

The celebration concluded with expressions of thankfulness to organisers, personnel, and students whose efforts ensured its success. Beyond competitors, the 2026 Education District I Sports Celebration stood apart as a celebration of unity, leadership, and quality within the Lagos education community.
