The Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has inducted 104 freshly appointed headteachers and charged them to demonstrate strong leadership while prioritising enhanced literacy and numeracy amongst students in public primary schools throughout the state.

Speaking at the induction program held at the Nigeria Union of Teachers Hall in Kuto, Abeokuta, the Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Olalekan Ifede, urged the newly appointed school leaders to justify the self-confidence reposed in them by the state government through reliable management of their schools.

“If you lead your schools well, the results will be visible in the performance of the pupils. You should heighten supervision and guarantee that students can check out fluently, write efficiently and communicate with confidence,” Ifede said.

He also applauded the Ogun State Government under the leadership of Dapo Abiodun for its continual assistance to the board and the progress being taped in the basic education sector. The SUBEB chairman further directed that no headteacher should allow Ogun Teach interns to absent themselves from duty, stressing the significance of discipline and accountability.

Delivering a lecture entitled “Effective School Management,” retired SUBEB Board Secretary, Olubori Akinleye, stated the primary responsibility of a headteacher is to enhance students’ literacy and numeracy levels. He recommended the inductees to act as instructional leaders, build cordial relationships with teachers, moms and dads, School-Based Management Committees, and use digital resources to boost school administration.

Earlier, the Director of Administration and Materials at SUBEB, Femi Fatade, stated the program was developed to gear up the participants with leadership skills and administrative understanding required for effective school management. Representatives of the conscripts, Mrs. Banmeke Fausiyat and Mr. Ojo Yekini, revealed gratitude to the government and vowed their dedication to improved service delivery in public main schools throughout the state.
